Animals In Distress (A.I.D.)
A.I.D. is a registered charity in Andalucia dedicated to finding homes for stray/abandoned animals found in Coin and surrounding villages in this part of Malaga. All the Dogs and Cats that are young or sick are looked after by our network of volunteer private foster homes as well as in our own home in Coin, which helps the animals get use to a family environment. Our volunteer foster homes are in Alhaurin de la Torre, Alhaurin el Grande, Benalmadena, Cartama, Coin, Guaro, Mijas Costa, Monda, and Yunquera. The rest of the animals are kept in a few and temporary kennels in Coin and Cartama. Please note that our foster homes and kennels do not have opening hours, therefore to see an animal please telephone first.

At anyone time, we will foster from one to several animals and every year we home an average of 260 animals. Most are homed here in Spain, others go to Belgium, Germany, Holland and a few to the UK. All of our animals have a health check and if applicable they are micro chipped, vaccinated and neutered or castrated. The medical bill for each puppy or grown dog can be from 70 – 200 euros each. This amount does not include things like other type of operations, food, collars, leads, flights, travel boxes etc. As we do not receive any type of funding from the government or local authority, we ask for a donation towards the veterinary costs of an animal when you adopt it. We also try to raise funds by holding events as well as selling donated goods in our charity shops in Alhaurin el Grande. Our charity does not have any paying members and we are classified as ‘Animos sin lucro’, which an exact translation would be ‘intentions without profit’ in other words all the funds raised are used for helping the animals and none of our shop volunteers or the charity committee, which includes ourselves takes a wage.
