Animals In Distress (A.I.D.)

A.I.D. is a registered charity in Andalucia (Nº. 07974) dedicated to finding homes for stray/abandoned/abused animals found in Coin and surrounding villages in this part of Malaga. All the Dogs and Cats that are very young or sick are looked after by our network of volunteer private foster homes as well as in our own home in Coin, which helps the animals get use to a family environment. Some of our dogs are also kept in our small sanctuary, which consists of 10 kennels for about 20 dogs and is located on the outskirts of Coin. As well as looking after dogs in our own home we also have a cattery for about 20 cats. Please note that 'we do not take in peoples own pets'. Our mission is to try to find good secure homes for the stray, abandoned, abused animals that we look after as well as networking with other charities to find homes for all the animals. When financially able we also try to help individual persons that rescue animals as well as helping some small dog rescue charities that are overloaded with animals and lack the funds.

monthly delivery of dog food to Pepis Refugio in Pedrera Seville Part of a regular monthly supply of dog food that we supply people, as well as helping them with other items. galgo Galgos (Greyhounds) and Podencos have he worst record for being one of the most abandoned breed in Spain

FUND RAISERS

At anyone time each one of us will foster from one to several animals. Most of our dogs and cats are homed in Belgium and Holland and a few to the UK, Sweden, Germany and Spain. All of our animals have a health check and if applicable they are micro chipped, vaccinated and neutered or castrated. The medical bill for each puppy or grown dog can be from 100 – 200 euros each. This amount does not include things like other type of operations, food, collars, leads, flights, travel boxes etc. As we do not receive any type of funding from the government or local authority, we ask for a donation towards the veterinary costs of an animal when you adopt it. We also try to raise funds by holding events as well as selling donated goods in our charity shop in Alhaurin el Grande. Our charity does not have any paying members and we are classified as ‘Animos sin lucro’, which an exact translation would be ‘intentions without profit’ in other words all the funds raised are used for helping the animals and none of our shop volunteers or the charity committee, which includes ourselves takes a wage. Please note that our foster homes and sanctuary do not have opening hours, therefore to see an animal please >telephone< first. We count on your support to help us to help them

Our commitment:

  • To help stray/abandoned/abused animals whenever possible. To keep animals under our protection in a safe & clean environment.
  • To make sure that all animals in our care comply with legislation.
  • To have all animals in our care checked by a vet..
  • To spay/castrate, vaccinate, microchip... where applicable.
  • To find suitable owners for adoption in Spain and other countries.
  • To educate society regarding domestic animals.

joe & jan with patch at malaga airport

We are looking for people who are or will be flying to Belgium via Brussels Airline or Jet air or fly to Netherlands with Transavia to escort dogs and cats. The dogs and cats are already adopted and are waiting for a flight to their new homes. You don’t have to do anything and it won’t cost you anything (apart from your own flight ticket) as all the details are arranged by us. We make sure that the dogs and cats go through the Malaga airport procedures and a team is on hand at the other end in Belgium or Netherlands to meet you and the dogs and cats. Contact:

A.I.D. 626942427 or Arca Noah 952596514

We find homes for dogs in Spain and other parts of Europe. This photo is of Joe & Jan (Founders of Animals In Distress) with 4.5 month old Patch at Malaga Airport waiting for the escort to arrive. The dogs then flew to Düsseldorf Airport where they were met by the representative from a German rescue association and also the dog’s new owners. We currently Network with Belgium and Sweden and we find forever homes for our rescue dogs in Spain, UK, Holland, Belgium, Finland, Switzerland and Sweden.

For pet transport to the UK we always recommend: Posh Pets Spain

Do I go home today?

My family brought me home cradled in their arms.
They cuddled me and smiled at me and said I was full of charm.
They played with me and laughed with me and showered me with toys.
I sure do love my family, especially the little girls and boys.

The children loved to feed me; they gave me special treats.
They even let me sleep with them - all snuggled in the sheets.
I used to go for walks, often several times a day.
They even fought to hold the leash, I'm very proud to say.

These are the things I'll not forget - a cherished memory.
I now live in the shelter - without my family.
They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe.
But I didn't know the difference between the old one and the new.

The kids and I would grab a rag, for hours we would tug.
So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed the bedroom rug.
They said that I was out of control and would have to live outside.
This I didn't understand, although I tried and tried.

The walks stopped, one by one; they said they hadn't time.
I wish that I could change things; I wish I knew my crime.
My life became so lonely in the backyard, on a chain.
I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane.

So they brought me to the shelter but were embarrassed to say why.
They said I caused an allergy, and then they each kissed me goodbye.
If I'd only had some training as a little pup.
I wouldn't have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up.

"You only have one day left",
I heard the worker say.
Does that mean I have a second chance?
Do I go home today?
